Photography has always been a critical part of what makes Trails Magazine unique. We work hard to bring you the most immersive and rich versions of adventure stories, and we try to inspire you to get out and sleep in the dirt. Photography plays a huge role in all that. But in the process of making each issue, there’s always so much great artwork that we’re unable to include.

This November we'll be printing the Photography Issue. Issue 8 is a celebration of all things visual, of the beauty of the outdoors, and of the people who capture it. This unique edition will still have all the things you love about Trails: great adventure stories, trail maps, backpacking recipes, skills, and gear. But it will be far more visual than our typical issues. We're working with some of the most talented photographers and storytellers in the outdoor space to curate a jaw-droppingly gorgeous magazine with stories from across the continent and world.

Seeing is Believing

We take a lot of pride in making every issue of Trails into a visual experience, but this issue will be unique. Expect more storytelling to come from photography, rather than text (though there will still be plenty to read). You'll find most of the Trails Mag staples—Outhouse Reviews, recipes, Blazes, etc.—but they'll be more photo-packed and gorgeous to look at.

Panoramic Landscapes

To celebrate and highlight the gorgeous landscapes we all head outdoors to experience, we're turning this issue on its side—literally. We're rotating the magazine 90° to accommodate panoramic 21-inch wide photos. There's never been a better way to visualize the outdoors (except actually being there, of course).

Long-Term Reading

This is a special issue, meant to be savored, enjoyed, and experienced over and over. So each copy will come in a protective sleeve that will keep the magazine in tip-top shape on your coffee table, and allow it to stack on your bookshelf right alongside Issues 1 through 7.

Visual Talent

We're working with the best photographers in the backcountry to create this issue, both longtime Trails contributors as well as new name. Look for stories and images from Richard Forbes, Danny Kern, Izzy Lidsky, Emily Bei Cheng, Taylor Roades, Gloria Goñi, and others.

Reserve Your Copy

Frankly, we're not sure how many extra copies we're going to print of this special edition, beyond those reserved by our subscribers. But we're expecting this issue to be popular and sell out quicker than any issue before. To top it off, it'll be more expensive, at $25, than any single back issue before (and that doesn't include shipping). Subscribe before November to guarantee you'll get a copy, and to save on four issues a year.
